Existing MagLev Trains
As of today, there are only three MagLev trains that offer the luxury of high-speed mass transit. Not surprisingly, all three of the operational MagLev trains are located in East Asia where top of the line transportation technology can usually be found.
Tobu Kyuryo Line
Known in Japan as the "Linimo", this line began its operation in March of 2005. This train operates under an extremely high frequency of passengers and thus top speed is not a priority. Traveling at about 62 mph, this train has 9 stops and transported over 10 million passengers in its first 3 month of operation.
Shanghai MagLev
Operational since 2004, the Shanghai MagLev is known for its high speed travel. It has only two stations and without frequent stops it is able to travel 268 mph. There are plans to extend this train - it currently runs 19 miles between just two stations, making the trip in 7 minutes.
UTM-02
This urban MagLev located in Daejeon, South Korea, was opened in April of 2008. As an urban MagLev it has a very short track, only .62 miles between Expo Park and the National Science Museum. However, this train is only a prototype and the final product - the UTM-03 - is supposed to be operational at the end of 2013.
